Understanding Commercial Concrete Pumping

Posted on

Concrete is an important material in the construction industry that should not be confused with cement. It is formed when cement, aggregate and water are mixed. Concrete pumping is the process where liquid concrete is transferred from a concrete mixing trailer or truck onto a surface using a pump. The main benefit of concrete pumping is the precision, quality, speed and simplicity of the application method.

Concrete Pumping Methods

You might mostly come across two types of concrete pumping methods, where one involves more manual control, while the other computerised control.

Boom Concrete Pumping

If you have a large construction project, this is the most recommended concrete pumping method. It utilises a remote-operated or computerised technique to pump concrete, where an articulating arm is positioned where concrete needs to be pumped using a computer or remote. The advantage of a boom concrete pump is that it is fast, precise, efficient and effective.

Line Pump Concrete Pumping

This method is most suitable for smaller construction projects because there is a lot of manual operation. In place of the articulating concrete pouring arm, a hose is manually attached to the concrete mixing truck or trailer and led to the position where concrete needs to be poured by two operators. You can already tell that this method might be slower and may lack the precision that the boom concrete pumping method has.

Concrete Pumping Companies

If you have a commercial construction project, ensure you hire a commercial concrete pumping company. Do not hire a residential concrete pumping company for a commercial construction project if you do not want problems. Residential concrete pumping companies might not have the correct equipment or necessary qualifications and experience to handle commercial construction projects. You might end up with shoddy or slowly progressing work because, in most cases, they might use the line concrete pumping method instead of the boom concrete pumping method.

Is Concrete Pumping Expensive?

This will, of course, depend on the amount of concrete you need and the concrete pumping method to be used. If your construction project needs a lot of concrete and the use of the boom concrete pumping method, you might require digging deeper into your pockets. However, if you need a small amount of concrete for a small residential construction project, the line pump or boom pumping method can be used, but the cost might be lower.
